Looking out of the windows of this 2nd floor apartment at the Oudezijds Achterburgwal one cannot escape the impression of being in the very center of the old city. The canal is  busy, but not with cars and a lively atmosphere is all around.
Inside the apartment one feels  somewhat removed from all this: the morninglight plays with the leaves of the elm trees lining one of Amsterdam?s oldest canals.
This buiding is one of the many national monuments dating from the 17th century Amsterdam has.
It was long used as a ware house storing goods brought from the colonies*.
Coming up the stairs painted with fresh and bright colors, one does not expect the beautiful  light and spacious loft.

A taxi will cost about 35 Euros from the
airport. Or take this very comfortable and
easy trainride to Central station.

** Now is a good time to buy a stripcard,
this is a pass for the public transportation
system for all of Holland. The cost is about
7 Euros and is about 25% cheaper the buying
single trip tickets. The way to use it on a tram
is to find one of the little yellow boxes on the
tram, fold the card back so you will stamp
either two lines for one zone or three lines
for two zones etc. All of the center of Amsterdam
is one zone, this entitles you to ride the trams,
metro, and buses for one hour, either, any or all
switching from one to the other is allowed on the
same pass, just show the stamped ticket to the
conductor as you enter the vehicle.
